While the Central Coast of California isn’t known for wild weather extremes, the elements can still have an effect on a home’s fascia and eaves. So can animals that live in them or otherwise wreak havoc on them. So, what do you do if you think yours might need repair or replacement? Here are a few tips.
First of all, have a look. Fascia is a band that runs just beneath a house’s roof. An eave is the overhang from a roof that prevents water from continuously running down the structure’s exterior. If you see that they are rotting, rusted out, or otherwise in disrepair, call in a painting contractor. If you don’t see any prominent damage, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s in tip-top shape. So, you might also want to call in a contractor to have a look anyway.
If there is damage, then the gutter will need to be removed and the wood or other structural material replaced. Once that is done, the eave can be refashioned, as can the fascia. The soffit (the board on the underside) might also have to be replaced or repaired, too.
After all repairs have been made, the fascia, eaves, and soffits can all be painted. It’s a multi-day job, so it’s probably beyond the scope of most homeowners; though some might do this as a DIY project. If you don’t have the time and want a professional carpenter to do it right, give us a call.
