The Importance of Hiring a Qualified Contractor

freshly painted house exterior

New Life has been providing house painting and commercial painting on the central coast for over 30 years, and have build a great reputation over that 30 year span. I like to think that we are the best painting contractor in San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County, but the fact is, there are other quality and reputable painting company’s, and that’s a great thing! Unfortunately, there are also a lot of self serving contractors out there that don’t have your best interest in mind, that don’t have customer service, and don’t carry proper insurances. I can’t stress enough the importance of getting estimates from a qualified contractor that’s licensed, bonded, and insured. Here are a few tips on how to pick right contractor that fits you.

First, you want to check the Contractors State License board to see the status of the contractor’s license. If a company doesn’t have license, do not even consider hiring them. Second, get at least 3 references from previous customers. Ask the estimator for those references phone numbers so you can call and ask about their experiences.

Some example questions that you would ask is, did they show up on time? Were the painters neat and clean on the job site? Did they feel like they got good value for their money? Asking these types of questions, you will get a good feel on what type of contractor they are. Third, make sure that your contractor carries insurance and workers compensation. There are occasional accidents that happen on job sites, like any other business, and when those accidents occur, the homeowners are protected and the workers are protected so they will receive coverage. Under workers compensation, the homeowner and business will not get sued. If a contractor has employees it’s the law that contractors carry workers compensation.

These are a few tips on hiring the right contractor. Call us today to receive an estimate at no charge or if you have any questions.
